TINCTURING

Folk Method- Dry Herb

1. Grind the HERB into a course powder, and place in jar with screw top.
2. Add the menstruum and stir well to wet the HERB.
3. Add more menstruum to cover the HERB by “2 fingerbreadths.”
4. Cap tightly with a layer of waxed paper between jar and lid.
5. Shake vigorously.
6. Check in 12 hours to be sure that HERB has not absorbed the menstruum. Keep the 2 fingerbreadths of menstruum above the HERB.
7. Shake vigorously once or twice a day for two weeks.
8. The next day, decant the tincture by pouring off the clear top. Press the remaining wet HERB with muslin or fine cotton (ie. clean pillow case.)
9. Combine the liquids from the top and the marc.
10. Filter through paper if you notice sediment or cloudiness.
11. Compost the marc.
12. Bottle. Cap. Label.

Folk Method- Fresh Herb

1. Finely chop the fresh HERB and pack the jar to the top with the HERB. Pack tightly, especially when using a light or tender HERB.
2. Add Menstruum to the top; making certain that all the HERB is covered.
3.  Follow #7 to #12 above.
