Manyof us are hoping to learn to use plants in our lives. We would like to be able to include plants as foods and medicines. We can do that! It's great to know that we can incorporate plant richness into the lives of our whole family. As we learn about HERBS, let's share what we are learning with our children. While we are learning a new way of life; our children will be including HERBS into their lives naturally- as you share what you learn with them. Most HERBS can be taken safely by children. We just have to calculate the dosage according to body weight.
There are several rules to choose from when dosing children.
Clark’s Rule: Divide the weight in pounds by 150 to give the approximate fraction of the adult dose.
Cowling’s Rule: The age of the child at their next birthday is divided by 24. (i.e. If the child will be 3; 3/24=1/8.) 1/8 of the adult dose.
Young’s Rule: The dose is found by dividing the child’s age by 12 plus the age. For a child of 4 (4/12+4=4/16or ¼) ¼ the adult dose.
